Synopsis

Inspired by Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein this series of art works explore the implications of the constructed imaginaries within contemporary social and political narratives, impacting the context in which these art works may be produced and viewed.

The text examines and intervenes in the way Mary Shelley constructs the Otherness of a specific Muslim female character within the book drawing parallel with the media portrayal of the Muslim women.

Grafting the Skin was a development of visual and contextual materials gathered during research period (2010-2018) with a particular focus on the media representation.
