Synopsis
Thinking through Orientalist narratives and in relation to ethics of labour, geography and privilege this piece was created in situ, done deliberately so as to create parallels with the weaving of a real hand made carpet. The sand was dyed within the gallery space allocated. The process started from top to bottom, right to left and so on until finished.
Colour photographic images of the carpet makers are revealed every now and then in a systematic way underneath the sand, to tell a different story.
